Round 11 - 27 July 202

Round 11 and a welcome respite from the winter rain this week, with our teams enjoying a welcome return to the sunshine, even if the pitches were still a bit soggy from the weeks rain.

U6 Ninja’s

After two weeks of training in torrential rain the Ninjas were meant with magnificent Margs sunshine for a home game against Cornerstone Cubs. With our whole squad present it was great to see how much improvement every player has made this season. They are a dedicated team who shared the goals around and worked hard defensively with lots of cheering from the sidelines. Coach Matt and Brit felt every player deserved player of the day this week. Go Ninjas

U7 The Messi Kids

A key word for the Messi Kids this week was dedication. First the team took on a wet and grey mid-week training session with enthusiasm. The sun then came out for this week's game in Dunsborough, but with four kids away it was four per team with no subs! Each game against Dunsborough was energetic with all eight Messi Kids putting in a huge effort.

Along with heart, the Messi Kid’s stand out skill this week was their defence, with the team showing use of their whole body to regain possession of the ball. After the game, the Messi Kid’s energy was gratefully replenished with surprise cupcakes from Darcy’s Nanna! The players of the day were Darcy, who just didn’t give up, his persistence rewarded just before the game ended, and Eliza, for constantly putting herself in position to receive the ball. Both will enjoy their kids meal and juice box thanks to “Pies and Ale”.

U8 Rovers

It was a perfect day for a game of soccer with the Rovers taking on fellow Margaret River team the Legends. Bragging rights were on the line and both teams came to play putting on a great game.  It was a tight game right from the kick off. The Rovers defence stood strong and kept the pressure on throughout the first half. Parker managed to finally break through the Legends defence to find the back of the net and was unlucky not to add to the goal count a few more times.

The second half was much the same with both teams standing tall defensively. There was some great teamwork shown with Jimmy stepping up to help defensively and Toby proving solid in goals. The Rovers stepped up their passing game which led to some great offensive runs by Reef. The Legends goalie stood strong however stopping many a shot on goal.

Players of the day went to both Matty and Ari who were both ferocious in their attack on the ball and their willingness to chase everything down. They both played every position with enthusiasm and showed great leadership. Congrats boys!!  With thanks to Candy Cow and Witchy Pies

U8 Raptors

Excellent game in amazing sunny conditions. Jed had goal of the match scoring from a massive way out and Coe played a consistently great game in both halves. All players were subbed on for the BCFC Stingers who were short by 2 so all players had to run for the two full quarters - wohoo! Thanks to amazing sponsors Amazin and Jed & Coe are off to play mini golf.

U8 Legends XI

It was a stunning winter’s morning for the much awaited derby clash between MR Legends XI and MR Rovers. Legends stepped up to plate against strong competition with some terrific performances across the whole team. Sonny and Moose showed a lot of confidence in goal whilst Max was a force to be reckoned with in defence. Standout performances across the whole team with the game played in great team spirit. It was a nail biter of an encounter between both teams with Rovers holding on to the slimmest of margins. Thank you Rovers for an exciting game. Congratulations to POD Ruby and Knox for a lot of bravery and grit in defence.

U9 Strikers

On this dry sunny day at Capel Oval the Strikers gave their all in a tough, fierce and pressure filled game. They fell right into place and excelled in their positions by spreading out on the field and by seamlessly passing the ball.  During the first half Sam protected the goal followed by Jake in the second half.

Josh showed determination and focus throughout with great defense skills. Jahla and Miles were the well-deserved players of the day by displaying electric energy and team spirit.  Many thanks to our generous sponsors, Amaze'n and Burger Baby, for the vouchers and support.

U9 Wasps

The wasps had a challenging game against Capel, with both their skills and fitness evenly matched. They played amazingly as a team to score a goal and battled to the end.  Well done to John for player of the match. He showed great enthusiasm and great team work.

U9 Serpents

The FMR Serpents had an action packed game on Saturday against the BCFC Possums, with some a great display of foot skills early on the pitch. The Possums were on full attack but came up against a slithering Serpent defence. The game was evenly matched for the first half with neither Team gaining the upper hand. The second half started off  with a barrage of goals by the Possums with the Serpents not giving up and making some great Team work with perfect passes to each but were just not able to reach the back of the net on several occasions.  Hats off to both Teams and Coaches for a great game.  Players of the day went to Chase Kelly and Ray Gardiner.

U9 Grizzlies

Boston and Dylan were players of the week for the Grizzlies.

U10 Storm

Another week where Storm stormed it in on a very soggy pitch. Great teamwork was displayed against GMAS Dynamics. They continue show what they have been learning at practice; running off the ball, passing and watching for threats.  POD went to Zephyr Thomson thanks to Squid Lips.

U10 River Squad

The sun was shining bright today and our spirits were high. Unfortunately it was a tough game for River Squad up against the Busselton Falcons.

River Squad fought hard, but the falcons pushed through with goal after goal.  It wasn’t all negative - we saw Dylan with a great header in the first half and the second half saw Declan in goal doing some great saves. Thanks to Witchy Pies and Squidlips players of the day went to Declan Hindmarsh and Dylan Hiver.

U11 Breakers

The Breakers played the BCFC Lightning on their home turf on a rare sunny mid-winter morning. Felix returned from America to score a goal. Isaac stopped many goals in goalie position to win POD along with Fynn who was rewarded for his determination in the forward line. Thanks to Squid Lips and Boranup Pies and Ales for prizes.

U11 Stars

The U11 Stars enjoyed a beautiful sunny day for this week's game in Busselton against the Cornerstone Cobras.

Huge effort was shown across the team, working together and backing each other up in both defence and attacking. The players showed lots of confidence in their tackling and goal attempts.

Oscar Atkins started off the scoring with a very determined approach at the goal. He earned player of the day for his competitive challenging and showing determination throughout.

The second award for player of the day went to Alex Mitchell who continues to grow into the games and shows improvements week on week.

U11 Jettz

The Jettz arrived to a sunny morning pre game with something to prove after a very tough lesson in last weeks game. They didn’t disappoint with everyone putting in 100% effort and bag of goals coming from Lennox G and Zoe.

Tyler’s defense was well executed with great clearance’s and even went forward to score her first goal with the Jettz, this was supported by a gutsy effort in the midfield by Flyn who is improving every week in her first season in soccer who also went on to score her first goal with the Jettz.

U12 Legends

After a four week break from competition, the Legends showed terrific maturity and team spirit.  We were one person done with no subs but a shout out goes to Sammy from Busselton for making the numbers even.  The Legends put on a show with some of their best team cohesion of the season with the ball placement and position holding.  So good for such a new team.  Our players of the week were Andi and Denzel, great effort guys, nicely photo bombed by Sangay. 😂.  Special mention to Coach Jeremy, who has been so dedicated to the team, enjoy your week off.

U13 Rockets

Under the sunny skies of Busselton, the Rockets were up against the Chooks in a challenging match this week.  Their first goal came in the opening quarter after a couple of attempts, with Hayden making a clean run to score.  In the second quarter, Charlie delivered a sensational save, adding to his team’s other saves during the game.

The Rockets showcased great teamwork with some outstanding passing between players. Despite their efforts, the Rockets were ultimately defeated by the Chooks.  The standout players of the match for the Rockets were Laec and Darcy, recognised for their exceptional timing and effort and never giving up.

U14 Tigers

Saturdays match against Dunsborough was a very physical encounter but very entertaining to watch. Both teams displayed great ball skills, team work, vision and passing. Alex knocked in the first with a little chip goal in the first half and some great pressure from Chloe paid off with a goal assist from a great pass from Emily. Our back line was put under a lot of pressure all game but stood up to the task with some solid defence from Charlie and best on ground Levi seemed to be everywhere at once, deflecting certain goals and never hesitating to run right out to the edge of the box to shut down their attack. Unfortunately we went down 3-2 and suffered some horrible injuries with Alex breaking his arm and Fiona getting mild concussion from a ball to the face! It was a tough game but well played everyone!

U15 The Blaze

The Blaze returned to Busselton this week to take on the BCFC Thunder.  Jack, Will and Archie good combo in defense. Working well to block and passing it up.  An early shot by Stirling hit the post. Rebound knocked out by BCFC.  The ball was kept busy moving up and down the pitch then an excellent set up by Lisa gave Stirling the first goal. A nice play by Charlie set Stirling up, but the ball went over goal. BCFC also had chances, but their shot went wide, and some good saves by Jarrah.  Then a Charlie, Lisa combo gave Stirling his second goal.  A brilliant block and pass by Jack set Stirling up for his third.

Jay was good on the line, and Ollie L working well in mid field.  William and Archie were applying good pressure in defense to thwart BCFC, but then they broke through with a great run and scored a goal. Kids were throwing themselves at the ball with some great tackles from both teams, with the half time score 1-3 to us.

Things were much the same in the second half.  Two great hard tackles from Archie then Digby in the box ended with a brilliant save by Jarrah.  Unfortunately Digby’s great block resulted in a broken ankle.

We scored again off a Poom corner to Stirling.   BCFC made a great play but was by jarrah.  A long bomb by Jarrah to Stirling right in front gave us our next goal.  BCFC were working hard, and made a great play forward with a decisive goal.  They followed this with another quick run but this ended with a brilliant save by Jarrah.

With the ball back down in our forward half, we had a corner. Nice shot by Lisa saved by keeper.  A long bomb by Stirling looked good, but was wide.  His next attempt hit the top bar. Ollie L had a go at goal but was saved by the keeper.  Archie intercepted the keepers  pass out and had a clear shot which went through.  BCFC had a chance with a header going through, but was offside. The final whistle blew with the score 6-2 to us, in what was a great game.

Five players were awarded Player of the Day this week, with Coaches Myles and Fran really pleased with how the whole team performed - with special mention to the defenders.  Lisa and Archie who were solid in defense as always.  Will for a brilliant game making the centre back position his own, and Jarrah for some great saves in goal.    Can’t leave out Stirling for his good work rate and 5 goals! Special mention also to Digby.  Rest up and we hope to see you back on the pitch before the end of the season!

 YL Wanderers

A tough match against league leaders Geo Bay was made even more challenging this week, with the Wanderers missing several players through illness, and a few others playing injured.

The first half defensive work and pressure stopped Geo getting any clean shots, and strong running from Zane, Remi, and Lucas created a couple of genuine chances, although unable to finish. After 30 minutes Geo Bay opened the scoring and went into halftime 1 nil.

Early in the second, Geo Bay were awarded a penalty only to be saved by Henry who had an amazing second half with several cracking saves. Jaiden worked hard up front with an injured knee playing a near full game. Sonny never stopped trying on the wing with no respite, and Caspian displayed his usual determination chasing everything down to the final whistle.

A couple of late goals to Geo Bay as FMR grew tired was not indicative of the closeness of the game, running out 4 -0. Appreciation to Sal for helping out this week on the sidelines. Although there is still some room for improvement in skill execution and decision making, we couldn’t be more proud of the effort from all players this week. Thank you to Squidlips for our player of the day voucher for Henry who had a fantastic day in goal.
