Round 10 - 20 July 2024
And we’re back! After a three week break, FMR was back on the pitch for Round 10 and the second part of the season. The weather wasn’t always great, but that didn’t stop our teams from playing fast and hard. Even if they were soaking wet!
U6 Ninja’s
In a thrilling clash, the Margaret River Ninjas triumphed over the Busselton Panthers. The game was a showcase of intense competition and skill, with standout performances from both sides. The Ninjas' defense was impenetrable, and their offense, led by Marshall and Evie, was unstoppable. With the experienced help of Luke and Leo, who were awarded Player of the Day, the team's strategic execution was flawless. This victory promises an exciting second part of the season for the Ninjas.
U6 Warriors
And we’re back with energy and excitement! The U6 Warriors were keen to get going after our mid-season break. The blustery Busselton weather didn’t slow us down! We welcomed our new team mate Jack in our friendly FMR way then bounced onto the pitch, focused to warm up and hear from Coach John. The GMAS Giants were just as pumped, delivering lots of powerful kicks and skills. Our Warriors kept the pressure on, confidently tackling our opposition and working together to carefully pass the ball closer to our end.
Numerous goals were scored from both teams, resulting in many proud faces, team celebrations and energising the spectators! We played amongst wind and sunshine as thankfully the rain held off until after the team celebrations. We regrouped at the end with eager Warriors, asking to please play some more football!
Our Players of the Day were Jack for his amazing effort and teamwork during his first game and to Archie for his dedication to scoring a goal within the opening minutes of the game, fuelling the team with adrenaline and focus to be their best! Congratulations Jack and Archie and huge gratitude to our fabulous sponsor, A Maze’n Margaret River for your generous vouchers!
U7 The Messi Kids
It was great to be back after school holidays, playing The Dunsborough Stars. Despite the cold, wind and rain, the players were enthusiastic and ran hard all game. Congratulations to Lou and Hunter who were the players of the day and thanks to Witchy Pies for the vouchers.
U8 Rovers
The first game back after the break saw the Rovers take on the MUSC Tigers in what was the toughest game of the season so far. It was a closely fought contest in the first half with both defences under pressure from the start.
Matty stood strong in goals and Parker was unlucky not to get the ball past their keeper down the other end. As always the Rovers game play was spot on with some great passes to teammates to open up some space.
With a huge downpour at half time the players were keen to get back on the pitch and warm up. The second half continued much the same as the first. Toby was superb in the midfield clearing the ball and dropping back to help the defenders and Ari was ever reliable in goal.
POD’s went to Mason who was brilliant in defence and midfield with some solid shots on goal and passes. And Reef who ran his heart out, chasing every ball down and threw his body on the line more than once. Awesome job boys!! With thanks to Burger Baby
U8 Raptors
The U8 Raptors had a close match on Saturday against the Vasse Kingsnakes. The boys all worked hard as a team and their improved passing and perseverance was fantastic to see this week. Congratulations to Arlo and Bodhi on receiving player of the day. Thanks to Burger Baby for their support.
U8 Legends XI
It was a chilly start in Margs for the 9am match against Busselton Raptors. It was a hotly contested match from the outset with the team giving it their all. The team’s passing was on point as was their tackling. Despite a challenging first half, the team showed a lot of grit and came back stronger than ever in the second half with a great goal from Hutch and solid defence. POD went to George and Max. Thank you to sponsor Amaze’n.
U9 Strikers
On this icy morning the Strikers were displaying excellent teamwork and great passing skills between Josh, Arlo and Sam. During the first half, Jahla as goalie, did some clever saves while the others dominated the game with plenty of big kicks. In the second half everyone was drenched in a blitz shower that gave them renewed energy. Malekai as goalie mastered his job magnificently.
We are grateful for our sponsors, Witchy Pies and LJ Soccer, and appreciate their support. Sam and Arlo D were crowned as players of the day!
U9 Wasps
As the first game back after the holiday, the Wasps full of energy and ready to win. Although the team had a few players out, they managed to play a great game. The opposing team made a good challenge for the Wasps. With Emily and Leo chosen as players for the match. They both showed amazing team work, running and passing skills. Well done.
U10 River Squad
It was an evenly matched game, with great dribbling and defence from both sides in a tight game, that was very competitive in the first half. Finally Luca got a goal through just before half time. Early second half three quick goals from River Squad. First goal from Storm- Lachy booted it in. Football was the winner today. Players of the Day were Flow Butron and Abigail McSweeney
U11 Breakers
The first goal of the match was scored against the Capel Wolves. Using team play to their advantage, the Breakers maintained the upper hand in a closely contested match. Xavier showed strong spirit to earn POD for turning up to play despite feeling unwell. Marshall continued his run of improved play in defence and attack to earn the other POD. Thanks to Squid Lips and Burger Baby for the prizes.
U11 Stars
The U11 Stars came up against a good Vasse Mambas side this week. With a strong wind it was certainly a story of two half’s. The Stars were up against a strong wind in the first half but they kept their shape and with some strong defending and good goalkeeping from Freddy Dargue they did not concede. Second half the tide turned, some great passing football produced several chances with goals spread across the team.
After what seems like a long break it was a great team performance from everyone. Special mention to players of the day. Jaxx McCartney who showed strong defending in the first half and a confidence to take an assured first touch before passing beautifully up the pitch. Isaac Mann who bossed the midfield in the first half before ensuring the Mambas would not get a goal with some top defending and distribution from the back. And finally Taj Cawse super strong defending in the middle of the defence first half and then produced several quick fire goals in the second half in a superb performance.
U11 Jettz
The players of the match went to Millie and Lenny H on Saturday , they both played with grit and determination against an extremely talented team.
U14 Tigers
FMR Tigers vs BCFC Lions game started off evenly matched, Tigers scoring first 15 minutes into the half with a brilliant goal by Alex Ralston. At half time Tigers were leading 3 to 1 with more goals by Alex and Chloe Willsher. Having no subs, half time was a welcome break from a fast paced game, as every team member of the Tigers were giving their all.
During the second half Tigers did not let off the pressure and were put to the test with the Lions taking many shots with keeper Levi McDonald putting his body on the line to make some exceptional saves. At the end of the match, Tigers won 5 to 2 with some fantastic team goals and defense. Standout 'player of the day' was Emillie Bowden with her fearless and relentless attitude.
U15 The Blaze
Playing on the lush grass at Bovell for the first time this year, The Blaze met the Cornerstone Crumpets on a warm sunny but also wet and windy day.
Cornerstone scored first early in the first half. Both teams trying their best to keep the ball in their attacking half with both teams having chances, but not able to score. Jack and Digby were strong in defense, covering ground and applying pressure. William did a pearler of a header, on the half way line, but we weren’t able to capitalize on our chances despite the team covering ground and playing their part.
The second half was much the same. Ethan had a chance, but his shot went across the front of goal. Stirling finally popped one through to even the score with 17 mins left on the clock. Tension was high on the sidelines. The Crumpets had some good chances, but Archie, Lisa and Scarlett in defense kept them at bay, and Digby did a perfect block in the box to stop a ball I thought for sure was going in. Asha was impacting in the mid along with Oliver L and Jay to try to keep the ball forward. With seconds go to, hard work from Asha and Charlie gave Stirling the opportunity to put another goal in to give us the lead.
Digby was awarded POD for his magnificent block and hard work in defense, with thanks to Candy Cow.
YL Wanderers
Margaret River hosted Busselton on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon that began badly from the outset for the hosts. An early penalty within the first two minutes resulted in the visitors enjoying a one to nil lead for the majority of the first half, before a late flurry increased the lead to comfortable three to nil lead heading into the break.
Busselton dominated the game up till the last ten minutes, when Lucus had Margaret River's first legitimate shot on goal. A minute later he was gifted another opportunity from a penalty and didn't disappoint, salvaging a little bit of pride for Margaret River. To the players credit they played the game out strongly, but a late goal to the visitors ultimately gave Busselton a comprehensive six to one goal victory.
Player of the day for Margaret River was Remi, who showed plenty of strength, pace and desire on a relatively dark wintry day.
Many thanks and happy travels to Coach Simon who is off to England for the rest of the season.
