Round 14 - 17 august 2024
Match Reports are a bit light on for Round 14. Between some teams have a Bye weeks, and all Busselton home games cancelled due to pitch flooding, those who did play had a wet and muddy time of it.
U6 Warriors
Special FMR memories were created at our Round 14 Derby match at home with our friends from FMR Ninjas! The Warriors and Ninjas eagerly warmed up with their Coaches whilst giggling with their team mates as they excitedly anticipated getting rained on and covered in mud!
The happiness was bubbling as the game begun! We were well matched for some fast play, clever footwork and daring defence moves! We navigated play around an additional furry friend player as a lost dog joined us on the pitch, deciding our 9am game was the most thrilling to be a part of at Western Oval!
As the game continued, all the FMR kids quickly had their kits decorated with mud splashes and raindrops, adding to the experience of a real winter day for football play! The players were energetic and committed the entire game, showing their personal best football effort which got the crowd invested to celebrate each play and constantly cheer loudly for our two home teams!
The atmosphere was electric! Goals were scored, slide tackles were mastered and big kicks were flying, helping to bring all our skills together for a Warrior showcase of teamwork, talent and on pitch celebrations! Our Coaches were beyond proud of each player, beaming with joy the entire game and celebrating how far the Warrior kids have come this season! We welcomed Owen, Estelle, Jack and Georgia as our Warrior Players of the Day for their passionate and dedicated play and for some fancy goals! Our gratitude extends to our Round 14 sponsors, Two Cracks Coffee Cafe in Cowaramup and Amaze’n Margaret River for the awesome vouchers! We can’t wait to come and visit these two great places in our community! A huge thank you to both businesses for your support! Wonderful work Warriors, the Warrior family is very proud of you all!
U8 Rovers
It was raining goals this week when the U8 Rovers took on the MUSC Boomerangs in wet and muddy conditions at home. The Rovers came ready to play, showing off their exceptional foot work and amazing passing to create plenty of scoring opportunities. It didn’t take long for them to get their first goal on the board, off the boot of Parker, and then the goals didn’t stop coming. The Boomerangs couldn’t penetrate the Rovers defence with Sailor, Reef, Matty and Rio continuously intercepting their runs forward.
Toby, Jimmy, Ari and Mason linked well in the midfield with some excellent passing to create an advantage and space. The final score went our way with POD going to Rio for a great game in defense and Jimmy for his impressive footwork and passing to create scoring opportunities for his team mates. With thanks to Ninja’s in M’Ocean.
U8 Legends XI
Legends 11 took on Busselton Stingers. It was a battle with the weather, at times it felt like the mud was an additional defender. Despite the difficult conditions both teams kept to their respective game plans. Hutch scored a fantastic goal, starting his run from the half way mark. Solid work from Makai in midfield and Max and George in defence, restricting the score line and a number of shots on goal. POD went to Hutch and George.
U9 Strikers
It was a wet and early start in Dunsborough. Strikers started well with Arlo giving the us the lead. Great passing play and link up between defence and midfield throughout the first half. The Strikers looked like a totally different team from last week (mid week training must be paying off). The second half was end to end football and the home team scored to bring the game level and half the crowd on it's feet, Arlo D made some spectacular saves . Game ended in a draw and we went to a penalty shootout. Malakai was our goalkeeper and he stopped every shot. Their goalkeeper also managed to stop all our players. It ended with the 2 goalies shooting against each - Malakai shot first and scored, giving Strikers the lead on their turn Malakai saved the shot. It was a fantastic game with great teamwork and camaraderie between the teams. Thanks to our sponsors Squid Lips and Two Cracks Coffee for supporting our players of the day Jahla, Malakai and Arlo.
U10 Storm
Mud was the winner this week, making sure every kid was covered in it by the end of the game. At times it was even a slow game with the ball happily getting stuck in the mud. A huge thank you to the Falcons for refereeing for us. An even bigger thank you to Storm for persevering even though you were soaked to the bone on a cold day. Congratulations to Billy Bebbington our POD (thanks to Ninja in Motion).
U11 Breakers
The Breakers started strong against the Dunsborough Titans in a persistent shower of rain. Drayke held out many goals on the soggy end of the Dunsborough pitch to win POD. Lennox played a consistent game in defence and attack to take home POD. Not even the relentless drizzle and soaking field could dampen the fire as the Breakers worked as a team to dominate the match.
U11 Stars
Wet conditions for all this weekend. The U11 Stars showed great teamwork in the game against Capel Wolves. Super passing and tackling through the muddy pitch which often stopped the ball in its tracks. A bit of humour in this game with a few muddy slides, an own goal and an opposition goalie who went for three goal runs.
A great game to watch and both teams played exceptionally well. Great sportsmanship and enjoyment shown throughout the game. Stand out player of the day was Keeva Dodd for her excellent tackles at the back. Great defending and tough tackling. Well done!
U12 Legends
What a challenging game this weekend! The legends did pretty well on first half keeping the play moving and evenly battled. The rain and mud became too exhausting for the Legends during the second half against the Stingrays who did an amazing job in their frontline.
Great effort from the whole team to be there under those extreme conditions. players of the game are Zed and Bella who go home with a Burger Baby voucher. Look at those big muddy smiles! We all had great fun.
U14 Tigers
On a wet and wild morning in Vasse The Cobras hosted The Tigers in what started out as a scrappy affair with the Cobras taking an early lead after a defensive mix up from the Tigers. This prompted the Tigers to click into gear and from then on it was one way traffic... The now buoyant Tigers putting 6 past them... Alex, the captain’s return after injury, slotting one with his weaker right foot and Jahli netting a brace of goals in a stint upfront. Special mention to Charlie for a defensive master-class and Piper for defending with poise and grace to get the Tigers out of trouble on a few occasions. A good team effort from the Tigers and a well deserved victory over Vasse. Players of the Day - Jacob Walker and Daniel Woods
U14 Sharks
The U14 Sharks met the Dunsborough Wanderers in wet, sloshy conditions. The cold never bothered the Sharks anyway, they played confidently, with excellent passing and movement on the pitch. The Sharks really held control of the first half, they looked hungry for the ball, and took to the break in the lead 3 goals to 1.
In the second half they continued to dominate, despite pitch conditions deteriorating as rain continued. They finished the match with another convincing win - 7 goals Sharks, 3 goals Dunsborough. Goals were scored by Kelani, Ziggy, Rainer, Felix and Kai, who scored at hat-trick. Players of the match went to Ziggy for an excellent all-round performance and Reid for his effort in goals.
U15 The Blaze
The Blaze met the Dunsborough Jets in less than ideal conditions. The rain had settled in and the pitch was wet and muddy. There were slides from both teams as each team attempted to keep hold of the ball. Both teams played with heart running from one end of the pitch to the other. The Jets drew first blood to open the scoring with their ball hitting the post and bouncing in despite Jarrah’s valiant attempts to stop it.
Both teams were having to work harder than usual to move the ball, with the boggy pitch not making it easy. Ollie L had a good shot which bounced off the keeper gloves, but was then caught. Both teams had lots of changes with the ball spending even time in each forward half. The rain thankfully tapered off, which I’m sure both teams appreciated. Duns scored again when Jarrah came out but didn’t quite get the ball, slipping on the wet pitch as did our defenders. This allowed the Jets to score again.
Our only goal came off a foul, with Oliver Lawrey delivering a magnificent kick considering how heavy the ball must have been, that sailed over and allowed Stirling to slip past the keeper to score. We had another couple of changes to even, but it wasn’t meant to be with the Jets maintaining their Number 1 position on the ladder. There was good sportsmanship from both sides with players helping each other up after tackles and tumbles. Next week The Blaze had two back to back games in the FIFA Cup Semi Finals. Fingers, toes and everything crossed for a dryer week!
