Round 7 - 7 July 2024

Round 7 started early this week with our U13 Warriors taking on the Development Squad in Busselton under lights on Monday night.  Always a great game and good experience for the players. We battled through some heavy weather this week with some teams being lucky to stay dry, while others got drenched.  Mother Nature giving us a preview of what’s to come.

U6 Ninja’s

This week saw another trip to Capel for our youngest players. They overcame an early start, rain and missing players to compete fiercely against the Capel Wolves. With amazing starts by Vinnie and Mo both teams were off and running. As the rain fell Ashton, Marshall and Eve took it in their stride helping their team out with some great passing and defence work. Charlie came into the game under injury cloud but with the Ninjas already playing one short he pushed through and came out as a player of the day, joined triumphantly by Lucas whose skills each week are the envy of all. Great effort by the U6 Ninjas this week

U6 Warriors

It was our first trip to Busselton and our first game in our new kit! Boy, were the U6 Warriors excited! The adrenaline flowed onto the pitches as the team started whipping up and down the field with speed and skill. Highlights included successful passing, calling for the ball and some good stints of offensive dribbling. The Warriors were rewarded for their efforts with many goals scored. The coaches were impressed by everyone’s effort and celebrated the team for yet another successful and fun football morning. Special acknowledgements went to Andi and Estelle, our two hardest workers of the game. They received Players of the Day thanks to Witchy Pies and Cakery. What a delicious treat they are in for, enjoy!

U7 The Messi Kids

Saturday morning in Busselton and the whole team was so excited to get their new kit! While the cold winds blew through, the games kicked off against the Bueys with all players ready and excited. I watched half of each game so I hope this little run down gives an idea of the great day had by all.

Right from the kick off Clancy was pushing the ball up toward the goal and Lou had an early shot at goal getting so close jack was putting the pressure on the Blueys and passing to Koby who had a great shot at goal. Eliza and Sonny were showing some great passing. The Messi Kids were keeping the Blueys at bay until the Blueys scored a goal right before half time. Koby and Jack were teaming up with some great passing and pushing the ball toward the Messi Kids goal. The crowd was getting so pumped and screaming for both teams in a truly exciting match. Sonny followed up with a great goal and everyone got in on the celebrations and then Clancy followed up with another goal 30 seconds later to bring it home.  Great work by all!

On the other pitch:

For the second half there was slots of great defending from Quinn and Ezra, the team were getting great leverage with the ball and launching the ball across the pitch. Quinn and Darcy both scoring early goals and having some some fun celebrations. Quinn was on fire getting another quick goal while being under pressure from the Blueys showing great ball control. Malakai made a great save stopping the Blueys from scoring. Malakai followed up with a great pass to Quinn who shot at goal and only just missed!!

Ezra got to take another shot at goal.. another great pass from Quinn to Ezra came so close to another Messi Kids goal. Great passing and team work from all the players. Then came Darcy with a a great block stopping the ball and getting back to the Messi Kids goal. The Messi Kids really kept the pressure on. Malakai and one of the Blueys had a hard tackle A super exciting second half with the Messi Kids showing great team work and ball control with great passing, Malakai was attacking hard after his time off.  Ezra and Quinn teaming up for a close shot at goal. Quinn scoring again!! And again with another goal from Quinn. Great pressure from Malakai

All round this weeks match was so much fun and the teams played so well together the Messi Kids in their new kit were great to watch.  This weeks players of the week were Koby who didn’t stop running all day! And Max who showed great defense and was always pushing up to the Blueys. Special big thanks to our coaches Krista and Trey for being there for the kids and supporting and guiding all the way!!

U8 Raptors

The boys had a great match against BCFC Raptors today. They all played their positions and you could see the improvement in their passing. Torin and Arlo had some spectacular saves in goals. Coe worked hard and showed some impressive dribbling skills. Jed and Jay combined well in the forward half and kept up the pressure towards goal. Congratulations on receiving POD boys thanks  to Candy Cow

U8 Rovers

The Rovers took on the Busselton Stingers at home this week, in a tough, muddy game that ended in a nil all draw.  Defensively the boys had their work cut out for them early. Ithan, Sailor, Ari and Rio made countless intercepts and forced turnovers to stop the Stingers surging forward. Reef was unlucky not to score in the first half with several impressive runs forward and some very close misses. The second half saw Toby working tirelessly in the midfield to win the ball and create opportunity for strikers Jimmy and Matty who never stopped trying to get the ball in the net. Special mention goes to goalies Ari and Rio, who kept their cool and made some impressive saves when it really counted. POD to Ari and Toby, with thanks to Candy Cow.

U8 Legends XI

Solid performance by Legends 11, with two brilliant goals by Hutch with assistance from Nelson (Moose). Great positioning and game awareness is getting better every week. Player of the Day went to Delassi for putting himself in the right place and attacking and defending well in midfield. Well done 👍

U9 Strikers

Clouds couldn't dampen the enthusiasm as the strikers took to the ground with an early goal from josh in the first few seconds. Competitive play with tense backwards and forwards before Vasse got a a sneaky goal.  Beautiful header by Miles, followed by a brilliant save right in front of the goal square. Great defence from Vasse made scoring tricky despite a lot of excellent work by Strikers in attack. Amazing goal from Arlo G from just past the centre, followed up by a fast goal from Sam, who managed to sneak past the tight defence. Half time and the Strikers were up 3-1 Miles got an early goal before the second half saw Vasse come back strongly with three fast goals.  Solid defence made it tricky for the Strikers and Vasse took out the game.  Player of the day went to Arlo G.

U9 Serpents

The FMR Serpents traveled to Capel to battle the Cubs on the weekend. The game started off with some good pace shown by both teams with excellent foot skills and some outstanding ball handling on display.  The Cubs were relentless by constantly hammering the goals but the Serpents goalkeeper with pure determination kept them with a limited score in the first half.

When the second half started the look of determination and the never give up attitude of The Serpents shown through with the team banding together for a series of passes worthy of the World Cup to get a score on the board. The Cubs came back with some coordinated team work to get a few more scores on the board, just in time for the whistle to sound. Both Teams had Smiling faces and congratulated each other at the end of the game. Well done to our Players of the Match Finn Dawes and Chase Kelly.

U9 Grizzlies

Grizzlies came out looking strong in their new kits to take on the GMAS Braves. GMAS was a fierce opponent but that did not stop the Grizzlies from playing their best game of the season. Coach Sam asked the team to work on passing the ball and that exactly what they did. The Grizzlies defence and midfielders, Tyler, Dylan, Boston and Zephyr, worked hard to turn the ball over and work it down the field beautifully to our strikers, Amelie, Archer and Hugo who put continual pressure on the goals. Osiris and Elsie, were formidable as goalie and shut down many goals. All in all, a ripper game to watch. Massive congrats to our players of the match, Amelie, for scoring her first ever goal of the season and Hugo, for being everywhere on the field.

U10 Storm

The clouds parted for U10 Storm to secure a victory against the MUSC Rockets this week. Playing on their home pitch the team continues to show they are consolidating what they’ve learnt in training and using it on the field. With no subs this week they all got to run non-stop for the whole match. Kynan Taylor well deserved POD for both saving and scoring goals, with thanks to Amaze’n Margaret River.

U10 River Squad

The Duns Raptors brought power to the game straight away with River pushing up hard on defence. Strong strikers and defence from both teams. Nice saves from goalie Ollie, bringing his A game. Rivers getting ball to goals but Duns goalie making some great saves. Fast paced game with all players giving 100%.

Some great passing from Luca, West and Ollie from Rivers. Flo, Abbie and Heath pressing hard. Rivers score 1st goal for the game. Declan made some awesome saves as goalie in second half. Luca scoring the goals for Rivers getting some great kicks in.

Final Score didn’t go our way, but Players of the Day went to Declan and Dylan. Fantastic game by all players!

U11 Breakers

The Breakers put on an awesome display of team work against the Cornerstone Cobras on their home ground. It proved to be an even matchup as the two teams battled against strong defensive skills on either side. Zoe and Drake stepped up to score goals for the Breakers along with Felix who earned POD. Sienna has shown increasing confidence and her tenacious play as a defender was rewarded with POD. Thanks to Scoops Farm and Ice Creamery and Burger Baby for prizes.

U11 Stars

Great to be back on the pitch after a couple of weeks of no games. This week saw the U11 Stars battle it out against the Dunsborough Titans on a larger pitch which pushed them to their energy limits. An evenly matched game with great saves from both keepers. Isaac Mann was the player to beat the in form Dunsborough keeper to get the Stars' goals. Through teamwork and determination, the Stars managed to keep the scores even.  Stand out players this week were Chloe Wheatley for using confidence in her first touch and Kai Field for his teamwork, defending and working right up until the whistle.

U12 Legends

The Legends found themselves with a tough match this week.  The first half was really hearty,  the team showed terrific defense techniques which cleared the offensive attacks nicely.   Andi in goals showed amazing spirit and confidence as her skills grow.  The second half showed how much we missed the team members away, with no subs the fatigue set in and Dunsborough showed strength in their passing and team work.

This week our players of the week went to Zed and Caio.  Zed was in there showing great defense and pressure, winning the ball on many occasions.  Caio showed motivation and confidence to approach play with a new found determination.  Well done boys, enjoy your Squid Lips vouchers.

U13 Rockets

With a small break in what has been a wild weekend of weather, the U13 Rockets took to the field against the Vasse Tigers with one motive in mind, strike hard from the front! After a few weeks off, no time was wasted and the Rockets got to work. The first passage of play was an even contest with both goalkeepers keeping their teams in the game. Darcy was the Tenacious D  and pushed hard for an early goal. Monty was displaying great positional play on the left wing, staying wide and creating options. After about 15mins, super subs Kalani and Hayden hit the field and made an instant impact, passing the ball neatly through the middle to set up the first goal with a beautiful strike from Alby into the bottom left corner, 1-0 Rockets.

Soon after, The Tenacious Darcy got his reward to make it 2-0. From here on, the floodgates opened and there was no stopping the Rockets. A through ball from Hayden to set up Cody to hit the net, equally backed up by a screamer from Hayden and all of a sudden we are at 4-0.

Late in the second half Vasse came back hard with some great attacking play through the middle and out to the wings. The Tigers were unlucky not to get their first goal if it wasn't for Charlie in goals scrambling hard to keep the ball out. As the half time whistle was about to blow, Alby, who was on a blinder, fired another shot and we went to the break 5-0 up.

Controlled play, simple, on the ground passing and clean communication was all on show by the mighty Rockets in the second half. Coach Jason was extremely happy to see the hard work at training coming together with all players getting involved. Griff and Dom were offering good space on the wings, with Riley and Oli backing up just behind. Laec wasn't keen to let anything past and Miles had blistering pace. Following a very unlucky own goal to Vasse, a lovely strike by Kalani, and then what was probably the goal of the match, the Rockets skipped to an 8-0 lead. A fast throw from Kalani down the left wing to Griff who trapped and slid the ball inside to Hayden, pressing the ball forward through the middle and out to Darcy on the left wing, great vision by Darc and a cross back into the box to Hayden to control, look up and bang - goal of the match!

The remainder of the match continued with this trend. Monty got in on the goal action to add two as a result of challenging possession and fast running. Darcy was not shy to bury the ball into top bins on a couple more occasions and neither was Albs. It looked as though Vasse had got themselves on the scoreboard, but after a never give up diving save from Charlie and a check with the linesman, the goal was denied.  Rounding out the match with a curling Darcy corner and a very unfortunate handball in the box, Hayden sealed the deal from the spot and the Rockets closed things out with a dominant win. Well done to Hugh for his Player of the Match performance and thank you to Burger Baby for this week's voucher!! Great game Hugh and well done to the Rockets.

U13 Warriors

On Monday night (3rd) in Busselton, the Warriors faced a highly skilled and top-class coached Development Squad side. This was a new level of challenge for us, but our team showed remarkable resilience. The Dev Squad players demonstrated exceptional skills at positioning and passing accuracy, allowing them to maintain possession and control much of the game.

In the first half, the Dev Squad players breached our defence and landed shots in the back of the net. The Warriors managed to stem the flow of scoring opportunities for much of the second half.

Catto and Declan made some strong runs up the pitch, using their skills to move from defensive mid positions into the forward. Although Catto got off one good strike at goals from the 18-yard line, it narrowly missed wide of the post, and the Warriors could not capitalise and score.

The players of the match this week are Tadhg and Savana. Tadhg played a solid game out wide, showing excellent recovery skills, getting around players, and looking ahead for passing options. Savana demonstrated good game awareness in the backline, scanning well to find and fill gaps and providing direction and support to the team.

We didn’t click into what we know is our best performance and potential to play well under pressure towards the end of the long weekend. This game was a good chance to highlight the importance of constantly moving into positions that allow for passing opportunities and accurate weighted passes as essential to our game as we progress.  Unfortunately, several of our players sustained injuries during the game, so the upcoming bye next week is timely for recovery.

U14 Tigers

Tigers played a fantastic game against Dunsborough Wanderers, keeping the ball in our half for most of the game. There were some really strong passes and shots at goal against tough opposition players. The final score was Tigers 5 - Wanderers 6, but it could have gone the other way. Our fantastic goalie, Levi MacDonald, was Player of the Day. Thanks to sponsors Milk Shack for the voucher.

U14 Sharks

The Sharks got off to excellent start, with an early goal from Benji Willing, whose fast feet danced through the blue defence . Charlie Crimble-Hall played strong in the midfield, working hard to gain possession and skillfully distribute the ball.  The Roar, a polished team, quickly responded with a couple of their own goals, despite a solid effort in goals from Vincent Lonnie, and breathtaking and consistent defence from Laura Dimopoulous.  At half time the score was 3 goals to 1 in favour of the Roar.  The second half saw one of the Sharks best defensive performances of the season - short on players, and with tired legs!  Benji Willing put in a masterful performance as goal keeper, showing his agility and fearlessness. He pulled off some remarkable saves, meanwhile the Sharks continued to hustle to get back in the match, showing perseverance and determination.  The final score was 4 goals to Dunsborough and 1 to the Sharks , with ‘Players of the Day’ going to Benji Willing and Laura Dimopoulous. Thanks to the Milk Shack for the vouchers !

U15 The Blaze

The Blaze met Geo Bay in Busselton on an overcast day.  That didn’t stop both teams from firing up on the pitch.

Poom had some luck up front to open the score.  Charlie and Ethan made a good team, but couldn’t get the conversion.  Ollie L was playing some good football with nice corners, catching the Keeper off guard, but we just missed the goals.  A Geo drive forward was looking dangerous, but Lisa chasing applying pressure and Jarrah made the save.  It was a hard game with both teams moving the ball well back and forth up the pitch.  Another Geo drive looking like a definite goal, but again good pressure and another Jarrah save.

Stirling scored his first of 3 for the game.  Charlie was great down the line and Jay good on the right.  After the half time break, we hit the pitch again.  Scarlet was chasing balls and applying good pressure.  What looked to be a Geo ball was saved right in front by Jarrah.  Stirling took a corner kick in, Geo Keeper came out and the ball went in off Poom to give us another.  A great run by Archie, to Stirling to Charlie who kicked a cracker goal and had the crowd cheering.  A long straight pass by William in the back down to Jay nearly got us another, but in the end we finished off with another Stirling goal into the corner to give us a convincing win.

Coach Myles was very pleased after the game.  We had Great ball movement. Players played position, and Lisa and Charlotte good in defense.  Stirling had a fantastic game and the interplay when we had the ball was fantastic. We created good chances and opportunities with William and Archie working had in defence getting getting the ball up.  POD went to Charlie, for his cracker of a goal and hard work on the pitch.

YL Wanderers

Margaret River travelled to Busselton on a relatively fine, but windy Saturday afternoon looking to find the form that took them to a two all draw, last time the two teams met.  The Wanderers came out with a little more intent then previous weeks and narrowly averted disaster four minutes in when Noah scrambled back in the last line of defence to clear a ball destined for the net. Both teams were creating chances before Busselton broke the deadlock eighteen minutes in, going up one nil. Whilst Margaret River's defenders were being kept busy, Jaiden came off the bench and provided some much needed spark up forward. Thinking clearly and with a deft touch he created two wonderful chances in the space of two minutes, the latter resulting in a goal to Lucas at the 32 minute mark. Another goal almost came three minutes later when Taj burst through the centre and sent a magnificent pass to Lucas. The one all score line at half time was a reflection of an entertaining game of football that was up for grabs, with either team capable of coming away with the points.

Busselton came out strong in the second half keeping Margaret River's defenders under pressure and goal keeper Henry very busy indeed. Ten minutes in Busselton eventually found the back of the net from a great corner, giving them the lead back.  Henry managed another couple of great saves in the ensuing minutes as Busselton kept up their attack. After weathering the storm, Margaret River began to mount some attacks of their own, with Ryder beginning to look dangerous up front and equalising with a great goal at the twenty five minute mark.

The last fifteen minutes was very entertaining indeed, with both teams managing to create some wonderful chances, but it was Busselton who broke the deadlock and left with the points for the day. With just seven minutes left Margaret River was extremely unlucky to give away a free kick in a desperate scramble to stop another goal, which Busselton duly converted. Overall, a great game of football with Margaret River looking back on track and beginning to put together some great passages of play. Every player stood up at various times of the day and can all walk away with their head held high.  Player of the Day went to Jaiden.
